David Lopez

|

David LopezDavid Lopez, a Brooklyn, N.Y., native is a recent graduate of Brooklyn College. He developed a love for journalism at a young age. "I always liked asking questions, I wanted to know as much as I could about a particular topic," says Lopez.

He got his first opportunity to write for a publication in 11th grade where he was a staff writer for Flava magazine, a zine put together by inner city youth. Lopez wrote about topics he could relate to most at the time: hip-hop and sports.

He continued his writing at Brooklyn College's school newspaper the Kingsman, and now freelances for VIBE, Scratch, Fuego, and Mugshot magazines, and is a staff writer for popular hip hop website Ballerstatus.net.

But don't typecast him as just a hip -hop journalist. "I've covered student debates, guest speakers and basketball games, during the same week sometimes," he says. "It just so happens that I'm getting more opportunities in hip-hop, but what I enjoy most is the rush of chasing a story."
